The 102nd Fighter Wing & 101st Fighter Squadron

Welcome to my site dedicated to the men and woman of the 102nd Fighter Wing / 101st Fighter Squadron....past, present and future. The units have been based in Boston at Logan Airport, and Otis AFB / ANGB on Cape Cod. I felt it was important to document some of the history of these units. With the BRAC 2005 process, Otis ANGB was originally recommended to be closed. However, the base has stayed open, and its mission and F-15s have been transferred to Barnes ANGB in Western Massachusetts. The 102nd is currently preparing for its new mission - a ground-based distributed radar installation.

Lynn Spencer has just released "Touching History: The Untold Story of the Drama That Unfolded in the Skies Over America on 9/11". It has first-hand accounts of what unfolded on the morning of 11 September 2001, and has many excerpts covering the 102nd FW. I have just started reading it and it is gripping, and hard to put down. I feel as if I am actually in every scene while Lynn's writing visually recreates the drama and emotions of that day. I highly recommend this book. |
F-15A 77-0102 has been saved for a museum! Thanks to all that signed the petition. It is unknown which museum will ultimately obtain it. Once I have that information, I will post it.
